This Privacy Policy explains how Weclay Inc. ("we," "us," or "our") collects, uses, discloses, and processes personal information in connection with the Paper website and related services (collectively, the "Services").

1. Information We Collect

We collect information through the following channels:

A. Information You Provide to Us

  • Email Address: When you sign up for the launch notification mailing list, we collect your email address to notify you when Paper goes live on Kickstarter.
  • Communications: Records of your inquiries, feedback, or support requests sent to our team.

B. Information Collected Automatically

  • Usage Data: Information about how you interact with our website, including access times, pages visited, and referring URLs.
  • Technical & Device Data: IP address, browser type, operating system, and similar information.
  • Cookies & Analytics: We use cookies and similar technologies to understand how visitors use our site. This includes a first-party cookie we set on your first visit that records how you arrived — campaign tags in the link you clicked, advertising click identifiers, the referring website, and the page you landed on. It is retained for up to 90 days and is sent to us with your email address if you sign up, so that we can tell which campaign brought you. Our analytics and advertising providers also set their own cookies. You can control cookies through your browser settings.

2. How We Use Your Information

We use your personal information for the following purposes:

  • To Notify You: Sending launch notifications and updates about Paper's Kickstarter campaign.
  • To Improve Our Services: Analyzing anonymized usage trends to improve our website and product offerings.
  • For Security & Compliance: Detecting and preventing fraud, unauthorized access, or violations of our Terms of Service.
  • To Respond to Inquiries: Replying to your questions, support requests, and feedback.

3. Disclosure and Sharing of Data

We do not sell your personal data to third parties. We disclose information as follows:

  • Service Providers: We share data with trusted vendors (e.g., email delivery, analytics, cloud hosting) who assist in our operations under contractual obligations to protect your data.
  • Advertising & Measurement Partners: We share limited information with advertising platforms, including Meta, so that we can measure and improve the performance of our campaigns. This happens in three ways. First, an advertising tag on our pages reports each page view to Meta, which receives your IP address, your browser user agent, the address of the page, and its own cookie identifiers. Second, when you sign up, that same tag reports the sign-up as a conversion event. Third, our server separately reports the same sign-up, and that report additionally includes a SHA-256 hash of your email address, your IP address, your browser user agent, Meta's cookie identifiers, and the address of the page on which you first arrived at our site. We do not share your email address in plain text with these platforms; hashing is applied to reduce, not eliminate, its identifiability.
  • Legal & Safety: To comply with legal obligations or to protect the safety and rights of Weclay Inc. and our users.
  • Corporate Transactions: In the event of a merger, acquisition, or sale of assets.

4. Kickstarter and Third-Party Platforms

When you pledge on Kickstarter, Kickstarter's own privacy policy applies to the information you provide on their platform. We may receive limited information from Kickstarter about backers (such as pledge level and shipping address) to fulfill rewards. We use this information solely for order fulfillment and customer support.

5. Your Rights and Choices

Regardless of your location, we provide tools to manage your privacy:

  • Access, Correction & Deletion: You have the right to access, correct, or request the permanent deletion of your email address and any associated data we hold.
  • Unsubscribe: You can unsubscribe from our mailing list at any time by clicking the unsubscribe link in any email we send, or by entering your email address on our unsubscribe page. This takes effect immediately and requires no reply from us.
  • Cookie Preferences: You can control or delete cookies through your browser settings.

6. Data Security and Retention

Security: We use industry-standard encryption for data in transit and at rest.

Retention: We retain your email address for as long as you remain subscribed to our mailing list. If you unsubscribe, we stop sending you email immediately, and we keep your existing record — your email address, the date you opted out, and the information originally collected when you signed up, as described in Section 1 — marked as unsubscribed, so that we know not to contact you again. We do not use an unsubscribed record for any purpose other than honoring your opt-out. If you want that information erased rather than suppressed, request deletion and we will erase your address and the data associated with it within a reasonable timeframe, except where retention is required by law. Note that deletion also removes the record of your opt-out, so if the same address later reaches our list from another source we would have no way to know it had unsubscribed.

7. Children's Privacy

Our Services are not directed to children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from minors. If we learn we have collected personal information from a child under 13, we will delete it immediately.

8. International Transfers

Weclay Inc. is based in the United States (Delaware). Your information may be processed in the U.S. and other jurisdictions where our service providers operate. We utilize appropriate safeguards, such as Standard Contractual Clauses (SCCs), where required for international data transfers.

9. California Privacy Notice (CCPA/CPRA)

If you are a resident of California, you have additional rights under the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA) and the California Privacy Rights Act (CPRA):

  • Right to Know and Access: Request details about the personal information we have collected over the past 12 months.
  • Right to Delete: Request that we delete personal information collected from you, subject to certain legal exceptions.
  • Right to Correct: Request that we rectify inaccurate personal information we maintain.
  • Right to Opt-Out of Sale or Sharing: Our advertising and measurement activities may involve "sharing" personal information for cross-context behavioral advertising as those terms are defined under the CCPA/CPRA. To opt out, email privacy@weclay.com with the subject line "Do Not Sell or Share My Personal Information."
  • Right to Non-Discrimination: We will not discriminate against you for exercising your privacy rights.
